NEO MS Chronicle Gundam Wing
(Sunrise/Tomino Yoshiyuki)

[GUNDAM WING is set in an alternate universe, and has no solid connections to earlier GUNDAM stories. One may detect thematic echoes, especially of the first GUNDAM, but events from any other story do not affect this one.]

The human race has established space colonies clustered at the Lagrange Points. The year is 195 A.C. (After Colony). The Earth and the satellite colonies taken together from the Terran System, which is governed by an Earth-based Federation, but in the name of maintaining order in the colonies, the Federation rules with an iron hand.

Though the history of relations between the Earth and the colonies has been troubled, there have been notable individuals in the past who tried to pave the way for peaceful co-existence. So far, they have come to no good ends. A great leader who nearly unified the colonies, Heero Yui, was assassinated 20 years ago, and by now his name has been obliterated from memory on Earth. Similarly, the monarch of the small North European country of Cinq, who advocated total pacifism, was overthrown 13 years ago, and his supporters forced to flee for their lives. Both hits were carried out by the Federation, which needs the threat of unrest to justify its continued existence.

Certain elements in the colonies have started a resistance movement. Five cells of the resistance each sent an agent to Earth, to carry out sabotage and other attacks against the Federation. They arrived in Mobile Suits made of the super alloy gundanium, far stronger than titanium, which can be made only in space. For secrecy, the five Gundams are camouflaged as meteors when they are sent to Earth, hence the mission's code name: "Operation Meteor" . These five young secret agents are our main characters.

The Earth-based Federation does have Mobile Suits it can use against the resistance agents, but very little gundanium, so even a mere five agents can do considerable damage. Mobile Suits form a special division of the Federation armed forces, under independent command. The Special Mobile Suits division is looked on with the same distaste by regular army personnel, who regards the Specials as uppity hot-shots.

In fact, the Specials are the front for an organization known as OZ, a type of secret society within the Federation. OZ is the creation of the Romefella Consortium, which is composed mainly of European nobles trying to preserve their wealth and power. The arrival of the resistance agents presents OZ with the opportunity to consolidate its control over both the out-gunned Federation on Earth and the colonies in space.

The wizard of OZ, the royal children of Cinq, and a young terrorist named after a man of peace can change the future of the Terran System.

MAJOR CHARACTERS

Heero Yui
Named after the assassinated leader in Wing Gundam. Single-minded and cold-blooded, equally ready to kill or be killed if required to complete his mission. He had undergone intensive training, and showed a remarkable capacity to ignore pain. Somewhere in him, well hidden, was the innate quality of kindness.

Duo Maxwell
In Gundam Deathscythe. A cheerful, talkative, friendly boy who called himself the Grim Reaper. A happy terrorist. The demands of the times had pressed him into this role, but he has a genuinely good nature, and can not ignore a person in distress (which may be his misfortune, since it got him involved with Heero). Extraordinarily sociable, he can converse with anyone, even the other Gundam pilots.

Trowa Barton
In Gundam Heavyarms. His origins were unknown. Once he had come to Earth as part of Operation Meteor, he joined a traveling circus for cover, and was accepted without question. Although he never says much, he can fit in easily in almost any company, like a chameleon, and got along well even with animals. He took an analytical approach to his mission, changing tactics as circumstances dictated.

Quatre Raberba Winner
In Gundam Sandrock. The only son of an Arab prince with many wives. (He has 29 older sisters.) He differed from the other four agents in his privileged upbringing, and perhaps was not well prepared for the harsh realities of guerrilla warfare, but had a support staff of 40 with their own Mobile Suits.

Chang Wufei
In Gundam Shenlong. He claimed women, children and other weaklings should not try to fight, although at age 15 he himself could still be considered a child. His pride spurred him to fight Treize face to face, instead of in the Mobile Suit, but was doubly infuriated when Treize first won and then spared him. His only confidant is his Mobile Suit, which he addressed by the name of "Nataku".

Princess of Cinq
Relena Peacecraft. The Cinq kingdom fell when she was only 2 year-old, and was brought up under an assumed name. She led a sheltered, pampered life until her foster father was killed and she discovered her true identity.

Leader of OZ Treize Khushrenada
Brilliant and charismatic, he was absolutely certain of the rectitude of his cause. He always seemed to have a clear grasp of the situation, and to see further ahead than anyone else. Under the code name "Operation Daybreak", OZ took over the Federation in a coup d'etat. The colonies saw OZ as their savior from the tyranny of the Federation. Treize's dream of a Terran System that is at peace, because it will be united under his leadership, was within reach.

OZ ace pilot/Prince of Cinq
Zechs Merquis/Milliard Peacecraft. An excellent fighter and a man of great integrity. He set out to eliminate those who killed his father and felled Cinq before attempting to re-establish it. Once he had done so, he felt there were blood on his hands and felt unfit to succeed and cedes the throne to his younger sister, Relena.

Lady Une
She appeared quite benevolent when persuading the colonies to welcome OZ, but she was capable of anything for Treize's sake, including ruthlessness. Her fair and fierce faces differed so drastically that she seemed to have a split personality. Which side was her true nature was unclear.

Lucrezia Noin
A classmate of Zechs' at military academy and later an instructor there, although she had no taste for combat. She sympathized with the Peacecrafts' pacifist ideal, but recognized the need for self-defense, and at Zechs' request became Relena's guardian and counselor.

Catherine Bloom
The star performer of the circus Trowa used for cover. She was disturbed by his lack of a self-preservation instinct, but can see past his mask to his human nature, and looked out for him in a big sister way. Arguably the most normal person in the story.

Sally Po
She entered the story as a medic for the Federation but the wrenching events precipitated by the arrival of the resistance agents lead to her becoming a combatant in a guerrilla force working against OZ.
