The Manga Categorization Project

The Categorization Project (YCP) is an attempt to categorize boys' love manga titles to enable readers to quickly identify titles they may want to read or purchase. It is not a general manga listing.

Note: If you are unclear on the definition of boys' love, shounen-ai, or yaoi, please see the Guide to Yaoi Anime and Manga before going further.

There are two major types of manga listed here:

• Specialized imprints: comic imprints that publish/issue stories from boys' love comic magazines, stories will range from platonic friendships to hard-core sex scenes
• Specific titles: stories from shoujo imprints that have significant male/male romantic relationships in them

How to Use the Lists

The act of categorization, necessarily, reveals information about the stories. While categorization information is not typically plot specific, aggregate categorization information, plot summaries, and reviewer remarks, could be construed by some readers as spoilers, so concerned readers may wish to treat the detailed reviews with caution.

Each title is listed under all of the types of information collected. As a consequence, a single title may appear in multiple lists. You can cross check a title's entry on multiple lists. For example, if you are specifically interested in titles featuring romance between gangsters and doctors in space, and want to see explicitly drawn sex, check the

• Character's Profession/Background list for titles under gangsters
• Character's Profession/Background list for titles under doctors/medical students/...
• Setting and Timeline list under SF for space
• Relationship list under Type of Relationship for romance
• Visual Explicitness list under levels 3 and 4

Titles that appear under all of the above lists are the most likely to meet your requirements.
