Morimoto's sometimes awkward, but endearing rectangular character designs in G-Defend are now gorgeous, flowing and consistent. The author is a fan of Hong Kong action flicks and you can see the influence in her well executed fight scenes. The plot is well structured and complex, weaving five main characters and a host of supporting characters into a coherent whole. A good title for those who like historical fantasy and detailed plots.

The main characters are structured into a standard 5 person team, searching the human world for remnants of the rebel troops. There are a lot of tender moments between the various main characters, but as of volume 7, the main couple has only just figured out they care for each other, and it's friendship, not romance, yet. Interestingly, the females in the story, and the female of the team, unlike in many yaoi tales, are complex, powerful character in their own right and play key roles in the plot.
