Plot Summaries:

A young opera student is tutored by the best teacher of "solfege" (operatic technique/method of learning) in Japan. The teacher is a booze-drinking crabby gay guy with (usually) bad taste in partners; the student is a wide-eyed innocent who adores the teacher. Follows several years of their lives, through training to the start of the student's career. Gets a bit melodramatic when the teacher gets into a relationship with a mentally unstable guy... - reviewed by Nora

Remarks:

These characters change over several years. The teacher starts out as a horny arrogant prick, and mellows. The student starts out as a doe-eyed innocent, and matures. Their sexual relationship shows some of this see-sawing: in some scenes the student is uke, and in others the teacher is---but the student is still the one hollering "dame!" (In this case, "wait, don't come yet, wait for me!") - reviewed by Nora
