Deadlock

Boston SWAT team (Smith, Paul and Gallagher) goes into building where bomb has been reported, start snipping wires meanwhile talking about the underwear the actress was wearing in the porn film Smith saw last night. Argument arises as to which is hotter, red panties or white. Smith gets confused by the talk and cuts white wire instead of red. Two terminals are defused but the third blows the side of the building out. Team is ordered into home confinement for a week. Life as it is lived in the streets of Boston- not. In a second incident when a bomb goes off and a Japanese businessman is taken hostage by the bomb-setting team, the SWAT team leader can't get through to the members cause Smith is at Paul's playing video games with him and Paul hasn't paid his phone bill so the service has been cut off. Thus the adventure part of the story.

Love- ah well. Shinichiro the businessman is in the first building and loses his glasses so the SWAT team gets him out just before going to defuse the bomb. He hears the blast and concludes that the kindly gaijin who are such big fans of AKIRA have been blown to smithereens. That night he's drowning his sadness at a local restaurant when the team walks in. Happy reunion and they all go drinking together and a drunken Shin spends the night at Gallagher's and the only hot action is in Smith's imagination. Fortunately we're given a couple of pages of Smith's imagination or this book would be without sex entirely. For the slush fans there are clasped hands as Shin and Gallagher, bound back to back, are held captive by the bombers (G had come to Shin's building to return the briefcase Shin had left by mistake at his place, and arrives just in time to shield Shin from the rubble of the blast) and one kiss on the roof after the bad guys have been defeated- before Gallagher tosses Shin through the air into the waiting arms of Smith and a helicopter. Not much action for the money IMHO.
