The tale began as all fairy tales should...

Once upon a time, a young prince lived in a tall tower at the edge of the castle. He was locked in the tower by his uncle, who had killed the rightful king and usurped the throne. The prince was beautiful, gentle, and kind, but because he had eyes of bright ruby, people called him the Prince of Monster

He was beloved by everyone who knew him, but most of all by his older half brother, who swore to free him from the clutches of the evil uncle and restore him to the throne.

But this fairy tale prince did not have a fairy tale ending. One night, the prince, lured by a raven, fell from the tower to his death. Thirteen years later, his uncle has gone mad, (from guilt, some say), and the throne fell to his older brother, who found himself cheated of his revenge.

Now words came to him that the prince still lived, that he did not die when he fell from the tower, but was transform by his uncle's evil magic into something not human.  He is the fairy tale prince no longer, though he retained his beauty. Now he is truly the prince of monsters, needing human flesh and blood to sustain him in his undead state.   And only his faithful brother's flesh could free him from the enchantment....
